This website was originally inspired by Camille Fontanella who one day said something like: "You know, the current website design is based on a funky, futuristic television, which is really iconic of the 1950s. Wouldn't it be cool if we used something like a gramophone, which is really more iconic of the 20s and 30s?"
Well, yeah!
So with the help of Alexandru Mitrea and dreamstime, I found the image used in the top-right corner of the current site. That photo really inspired the color scheme and the feel of the site. From there, it was a question of design and flow.
For that, I consulted with Camille for general design and comments and collaborated with Michael Delaney for css implementation and troubleshooting. It's really thanks to him that the site design is physically flexible (and actually works), and he kept me honest and convinced me to validate strict xhtml. He's also the genius behind the implementation of the in-page newsletter subscription ajax module on the contact page.
If you have any questions about how any of this was done, first you should check out csszengarden. Then, if you still have specific questions about how we did the site, please feel free to contact me.
